RACI vs RAPID
Understanding project roles (RACI) vs decision processes (RAPID).
RACI and RAPID are two frameworks people often confuse, because both assign roles — but they answer different questions. RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed) maps the long-lived roles around a project or piece of work: who does it, who is answerable for it, who gets a say, and who simply needs to be kept in the loop. Its one iron rule is that exactly one person is Accountable for any given task.
RAPID (Recommend, Agree, Perform, Input, Decide) instead maps the roles around a single decision, in the moment it is being made — it exists to break the bottleneck where nobody is sure who actually gets to decide. Use RACI to give a project structure and role clarity, and RAPID to make fast, unambiguous decisions inside it; the two are complementary and work best side by side.
